Saturday has been dubbed the National Day of Civic Hacking, and Tulsa is among about 100 cities that will be taking part.

Rather than trying to hack, or gain illegal entry, into computer systems for nefarious means, the participants will be focused on doing good.

“For computer professionals, another definition of hack is to use a creative solution to quickly reach a goal when you are faced with few resources and limited time,” said John Whitlock, a co-captain for the nonprofit group Code for Tulsa, one of the organizers of the local event.

“This is what we’re going to be doing on Saturday – finding ways to address problems in Tulsa or tell people more about the community.”

This is the first year for the National Day of Civic Hacking. The concept has been promoted by the White House, and Tulsa was one of the first to sign up, Whitlock said.

The Tulsa WebDevs Group, and Tulsa Food Trucks facebook group are joining forces to create a mobile app (iphone / android) for food trucks in Tulsa!

We’re kicking off the app creation at the new Chimera coffe house, located at 212 N. Main St. in the Brady District, downtown. We’ll spend the morning there, program until we get hungry, have some of the food truck peeps bring us lunch, and if we need to meet or keep working on the app, likely move the party over to Del Ray @ 7th & Houston.

– 9am to lunch:
programmers are planning and coding.

– lunch:
early lunch / brunch available at chimera (breakfast tacos).
food truck owners are being asked to bring food w/ them after their lunch events.

– 1pm – 2pm ish
(“after lunch” (however it works for truck owners)): truck owners Q&A with programmers, and the truck owners can talk about their challenges, features they need the most, etc. josh lynch of the dog house, and mike bausch of andolini’s will be there for sure, and we’ll likely have a couple more truck owners.

– ‘rest of the afternoon / evening:
more programming. ideally, by the end of the evening, we could have a bit of a working demo.
